Celebrating 150 years of Association Football in Hitchin

150 Celebrations update – Wednesday 27th May 2015

Please find a further update on arrangements for celebrations of the 150th anniversary of Association Football in Hitchin:

150 Merchandise
Polo Shirts with the embroidered 150 badge are now available in the three 1865 colours – White, Magenta and Navy.

These are available in sizes ranging from small to 3XL and the price of these will be £20. Sizes 4XL and 5XL will be available in White and Navy (but not Magenta) at a cost of £23 .

Many of you have already paid a £5 deposit to secure your order – these will be available for collection from the first pre-season game.

We also have a limited edition of 150 anniversary Badges.

Each of these are separately numbered, and will sell for £5. Because the majority of the money raised from sales will be going to chosen Charities, if you would like a particular number and we still have it – we will ask you for an extra £1 donation to help our fundraising towards this. We have already sold over 50 of these badges at the Hereford game, so they are going fast…..

We are also in the process of ordering a quantity of 150 anniversary Mugs, and it is hoped these will be available for sale at the Market Stall early in July.

If you would like to order either of these items,  you can do so by emailing: chris.newbold@hitchintownfc.club to make arrangements for your order.

150 Prize Draw
Up till now, 184 businesses in Hitchin have contributed prizes to this draw. The draw will be held after the first home game in November, and we will be selling tickets in the Supporters’ Club Shop and the Club Office on Match days, and at other Club events where there is an opportunity to do so. We are aiming to sell as many as we possibly can as this is possibly our biggest opportunity to help boost the coffers for the chosen beneficiaries of the monies we raise. Tickets will sell at £1 each.

We would be grateful for any help that you can give us, either by buying a ticket (or tickets) , or by selling books of tickets for us to your friends and family. If you are able to help by selling tickets, please either email Chris, pop into the Club Office on a Match Day or see Steve Maxted or Roger Berry (at many games up till the event we will have a 150 table inside the ground, just inside the turnstiles – or in wet weather, in the Supporters’ Club Shop).

150 Celebration Dinner
We can now confirm that the 150 Celebration Dinner will take place on Friday 20th November 2015 at The Sun Hotel, Sun Street. Graham Poll, referee at the FIFA World Cup Finals of 2002 and 2006, will be the guest speaker. Price of tickets will be £35 and the event is limited to 100 places.

We have already started compiling a list of those interested in going and over 50 people have already said they wish to attend. Booking of a place at this event will only be guaranteed by purchase of a ticket and paid in full, and tickets will be available in pre-season (will update this page when they are available).

If you are interested in attending, please give your name to Steve, Roger or Chris at any game or club event or email Chris - chris.newbold@hitchintownfc.club

150 Celebration Game
We are hopefully close to announcing our celebration game, however we are still in negotiations and will update supporters on this as soon as we possibly can.

For this game we are commissioning a kit in 1865 Hitchin colours which the Hitchin Town team will wear – only the once, for this specific game. The 1865 colours shirts, of which there will only be 20 made, will then be auctioned to raise as much money as we can for our chosen charities.

150 Celebration Book
The writing of the book is progressing well, and will be titled: “Up and Down, for the Town : 150 Years of Association Football in Hitchin”. It is not yet certain when the book will be ready for publication and sale, but it will be in time for the actual anniversary date of November.

150 Events Programme
A 150 events programme is being produced. This will centre around the Celebration game but will have lots of other Club related information in the publication. It will contain articles by Guillem Balague, Graham Poll and Stuart Hammonds along with lots of other interesting articles, both football and non-football related.

Market Stall
We will have a stall in the Market on Saturday 4th July to promote our 150 celebrations and to sell Merchandise and 150 Prize Draw tickets. Please feel free to pop along and visit us.

150 Ale
Mick Docking is in negotiation with a couple of breweries about the possible production of a “Hitchin 150 ale”. More news to follow as it becomes available.

Where the money raised will go…
It has been decided that profits raised from the 150 Anniversary celebrations will be divided as follows: 60% to our chosen Charities and 40% to Hitchin Town Football Club.

Our chosen charities are:
BBC Children in Need:  https://www.bbcchildreninneed.co.uk
Letchworth Garden House Hospice:  http://www.ghhospice.co.uk

BBC Children in Need is the BBC's UK corporate charity. They provide grants to projects in the UK which focus on children and young people who are disadvantaged. Their vision is that every child in the UK has a childhood which is safe, happy and secure, and allows them the chance to reach their potential.

We chose Letchworth Garden House Hospice as our local charity to support as we are already aware of the absolutely sterling work they do to support people in North Hertfordshire in the later stages of their life. Garden House is a registered charity offering hospice care and support to patients from the community with a terminal diagnosis. Services are offered free of charge to patients and families needing the support of Garden House.

There are a number of people in both the 150 Working Group and at the Club who have direct experience of the Hospice’s caring for family members and the personal support they have benefited from at a very difficult time.

The 150 Working Group is: Roy Izzard, Mick Docking, Brian Gray, Ian Mann, Steve Maxted, Roger Berry, Colin Ridgway, Neil Jensen, Frank King and myself.

Chris Newbold.
