Weekly Bulletin

Friday, September 29 2017

Saturday 30 September away to Gosport league kick off 3.00pm. Coach leaves 9.30am.
Monday 2 October home to Bishops Stortford Bigfreebet.com Challenge Cup kick off 7.45pm.

The under 18’s travel to Saffron Walden on Thursday 5 October kick off 7.45pm in the second qualifying round of the F A Youth Cup.

In the lead up to Non-League Day Hitchin Town FC received good news from the Hertfordshire F A this week. As a result of reaching the final of the Herts Charity Cup in 2015-16 the Hertfordshire F A have allowed us to choose a charity to receive a donation of £300 from the competition profits. We would like to thank the competitions committee of the Hertfordshire F A for this and it is no surprise that we have chosen Stevenage Haven as our nominated charity. We are working with Stevenage Haven on Non-league Day and will donate a percentage of the pay what you want receipts to them and all monies raised will be spent on the Hitchin homeless hostel.

We will be  delighted to welcome Vicki Askew chief executive of the Hertfordshire F A to the Non-League Day  game against Stratford together with other officials and they will  present a cheque for £300 to representatives of Stevenage Haven on the pitch.

The CEO of Stevenage Haven Barbara Howard said, "The £300 will be gratefully received and we appreciate the recognition of the work The Haven undertakes in North Hertfordshire and Stevenage. We are keen to continue to raise the profile of the charity and importantly awareness of homelessness, which can genuinely happen to anyone. Unfortunately rough sleeping is increasing and Government figures show that this problem increased by 21% since 2015 with the Eastern England recording the third highest rise nationally. We are fortunate that we are working in partnership with 'Resolve' and NHDC in an endeavour to make a difference to those sleeping rough in North Herts and events like this help us with this area of work, so thank you.
The basketball and football events last Sunday and Monday were very successful and highlighted the excellent work our community coach Marc Campbell has been carrying out with residents from Stevenage Haven and the Hitchin homeless hostel. The Comet were present at the football event and will include a report in next week’s edition. Hitchin Town FC would like to thank Nick Gill and Layth Yousef the editor and sports editor of the Comet for  their support of our Non-League day initiative.

Please urge your family, friends, neighbours, work colleagues to support Non-League Day on Saturday 7 October. It is a pay what you want game for adults while under 16’s get in free. A percentage of the match day takings will be donated to Stevenage Haven and all monies raised will go to the Hitchin homeless hostel. The whole idea of Non-League Day is to encourage people to support their local non-league club and to realise football is not all about the Premier league and Football League and that non-league clubs are part of the community offering affordable football. Can we reach the 1,000 supporters target?

The other semi-final between Hemel Hempstead and Royston has been arranged for Tuesday 7 November. I have been told the final will be in January or February.

Regular supporter Keith Docking (brother of Mick)has been watching Hitchin for 50 years but is now moving to live in Spain. The St Ives game on Monday was his last game before he goes to sunnier climes. He will make occasional visits back to England and they will be based on seeing as many Hitchin games as possible! Good luck Keith and I know you will be glued to our website particularly on match days.

Dan Webb has recovered from his injury and is available for Gosport.
Connor Vincent is also now fit and available for Gosport.
Liam Brooks will be available for Bishops Stortford on Monday.
Kieran McCaffrey will play for Stotfold tomorrow to get necessary match time.

It was good to see both Matt Lench and Kane Smith at our match on Monday night supporting the lads. We would like to congratulate Kane on being selected on the reserve list for the England C team this week. On Tuesday Will Wright popped into the Arena to meet the current crop of youth players on the college programme and he certainly looked as though he had been on the weights! He too is progressing very well with Colchester United U23’s with a number of clean sheets under his belt.
