Weekly Bulletin & Manager's Notes, 26 January

Friday, January 26 2018

Saturday 27 January home to Kings Lynn  League kick off 3.00pm.
Monday 29 January home to Boreham Wood  Herts Senior Cup quarter final  kick off 7.45pm.

Sad news this week as Joan Barratt the wife of chairman Terry passed away after a long illness. The club send their condolences to Terry at this difficult time.

Our fixture secretary Chris Newbold has been experiencing a very trying period in this spell of bad weather after the postponement of our most recent two fixtures. Things are never straight forward when it comes to rearranging the postponed games and one of the biggest problems is which fixture takes priority. The Herts Senior Cup has priority over a League or League Cup fixture so this is why the Boreham Wood game is now on Monday instead of the Kempston Rovers game in the League Cup. It also means that if we beat Boreham Wood the semi-final is due to be played week commencing 5 February which would mean the Kempston Rovers game will again have to make way!

But the League Cup takes priority over a League game so in this case if we do play the Herts Senior Cup game on 5 February the Kempston Rovers game would move to Monday 12 February meaning the Chesham League game would have to be moved. On top of all these permutations the weather always remains a threat as we are still in mid winter.

To add to the problems Chris has been facing the Herts F A have been trying to arrange the Charity Cup final this week but the first few dates they suggested clashed with existing fixtures and unlike the Senior Cup the Charity Cup has no priority at all and ranks below the League, League Cup and Senior Cup in fixture terms. So the Charity Cup final will have to be in March or April. If all this confuses you I am not surprised but as Chris said to me this week it could be worse-he could be Slough's fixture secretary!

I suggest you keep watching our website to keep on top of any fixture changes.

The Ladies are at home to Royston Town Ladies Reserves on Sunday 28 January kick off 2.00pm at Swinburne Avenue. Last week's game was postponed.

The academy team are at home to Brentford Griffins on Wednesday 31 January kick off 1.30pm at the Arena.

Our game on Saturday has been sponsored by the family of our Hall of Fame member Bruce Spavins. Bruce is recognised as one of the greatest central defenders and captains in Hitchin's history and it is great that the family want to mark the anniversary of Bruce passing away in late December 2016. There will be up to 15 members of the Spavins family attending including his widow Mave. We thank them for their support and hope they enjoy the occasion.

Josh Bickerstaff is available for the Kings Lynn game but Jay Dowie is still injured.
There are no new injury problems and no suspensions.

The one positive to come from the two postponed games is that certain players who were carrying knocks are now fit. We had a good training session last Saturday and further sessions on Monday and Thursday mean we are eager to return to action.

Kings Lynn are currently second in the table and are realising their great potential. It will be a very different game from last season when manager Ian Culverhouse was in charge of Kings Lynn for the first time.

It will obviously be a tough match but I am very confident we will put in a much better performance than in the last game against Biggleswade. I would ask for the supporters to stick with the team and the players are determined to make up for letting you down against Biggleswade.

I previewed this game last week and I will reiterate that I am really keen to hold on to the Herts Senior cup for a third consecutive season. Boreham Wood are having a fine season and it should be an entertaining game.
