Weekly Bulletin, 2 March

Friday, March 2 2018

As expected Saturday's game against Hereford has been postponed due to the adverse weather conditions.

There is no midweek game.

The away game at Stratford has been rearranged for Tuesday 27 March kick off 7.45pm.

The other semi-final between Didcot and Larkhall Athletic was postponed on Tuesday and has been rearranged for Tuesday 6 March.

Please find below the match report for Sunday 25 February by Callum Ellis.

"Hitchin Ladies returned to the Chris Renshaw Cup last Sunday. We were up against the high flyers of Division Three Bedford Ladies Development who currently sit first in their league.

The ladies got underway and it was a very shaky start to the game and Bedford took the lead within 3 minutes. It was  a quick break down the right and a cross that hit the penalty spot and was converted with a little volley. Bedford Ladies came back at Hitchin in the 6th minute and a one on one with the keeper saw the Bedford player just shoot wide. 8 minutes into the half Hitchin were awarded a penalty for a handball, and Chaffey stepped up to slot past the keeper.

Hitchin started to settle and play their game, knocking the ball around and exploring space within the Bedford midfield. It was in the 39th minute when Watson played the ball through to McNamara who calmly slotted past the keeper to make it 2-1. The Ladies continued to win possession in the Bedford half but were unable to extend their lead before the half time break. During the half time break our sponsor showed up with Oatmeal Cookies & oranges, thank you Soul Shack!

Hitchin started pushing the ball around the Bedford defence who kept loosing possession. There was brilliant link up play between Watson, Franklin & McNarama but they could not find the net. Franklin went close with a shot just passing wide. Hitchin won a corner when McNamara tried to cross it into the awaiting Chaffey. Cain-Murnane floated the ball into Chaffey who was waiting unchallenged and made it 3-1.

Hitchin were on the attack again with Franklin but her shot flashed past the post. McNamara had a one on one with the keeper but just couldn't hook it round for the fourth. Hitchin won a free kick when Winter was kicked in the ankle. Chaffey floated the ball into Watson who saw her first effort punched to Cain-Murnane who hit the ball towards goal but Watson got on the end to make it 4!

Bedford  won a penalty as a deflected shot hit the hand of a Hitchin defender. It was down to Friel who saved the penalty with her feet and wrapped the game up with the clearance. The Ladies got their reward for today's win from our Chairperson which was freshly baked cakes with yellow and green icing! Who said football had to be serious?

It was another great show by Hitchin Ladies who again came back from being one down to go on to win.

We march on into the semi-finals where we will meet Letchworth Garden City Eagles Ladies. Before that we are at home to top of the table Garston Ladies at Swinburne Avenue, Hitchin on Sunday 4 March at 2.00pm."

The academy side beat Wealdstone 5-1 last Friday but their game at Metropolitan Police was postponed on Wednesday. They are at home to Luton Cedars on Wednesday 7 March at the Arena kick off 1.30pm.

If you did not already know Brett Donnelly now does a weekly blog which has proved very popular. It can be accessed on the website.

Josh Bickerstaff and Elliot Bailey have benefited from the adverse weather conditions with more recovery time and should both be fit when we play Chesham.
