Biggleswade Town 4 Hitchin Town 1

Tuesday, August 2 2011

Three second half goals sunk a Hitchin team that had undergone drastic changes at the interval. Until the break, the Canaries were in contention and even took a 20th minute lead through John Frendo.

Frendo almost scored early on in the game, but it was Biggleswade’s Kevin Kilroy that woke the crowd with a shot that struck the crossbar.

Then Frendo found the back of the net, cleverly dummying the ball after a cross by Tom Pepper and shooting home from close range.

Biggleswade came more into the game and had a succession of chances, notably former Hitchin man Paul Barnes.

It was another ex-Canary, Brett Donnelly, that levelled the scores six minutes from the interval.

Amid mass a mass changeover, Biggleswade emerged the stronger side and two fine goals from Craig Daniel (75 and 86 minutes) and an earlier effort by Jon Wolff (66 minutes), gave the Waders a surprise 4-1 victory.

Biggleswade: Bull, Flack, Pemberton (Oujudi 55), Folds (Kilroy 60), Gatti, Kilroy (Wolff 55), Daniel, McGowan (Leggatt 55), Barnes (Lochhead 55), B.Donnelly (O’Brien 55), Fuller
