Hitchin Town 1 Biggleswade Town 0

Sunday, March 15 2015

Hitchin were back to winning ways on Saturday, as a Nat Peacock goal secured three points against a 10-man Biggleswade Town.

The Canaries started the game strongly and should have been ahead after just six minutes. Callum Donnelly picked out Peacock from a corner, with Waders' keeper Ian Brown tipping the Canary forward's header over the crossbar.

In the 10th minute Donnelly had a long range effort but it was off target.

Saul Williams continued his hardworking attitude shown in recent weeks and his useful cross in the 11th minute picked out Jonny McNamara, although the midfielder's header went wide of the post.

A teasing cross from Biggleswade's Lee Allinson minutes later looked promising, but an alert Charlie Horlock looked confident as he came out to retrieve the ball.

Hitchin continued to dominate and Peacock got a shot away in the 15th minute, although the tame effort made for an easy save for Brown. Seconds later, Williams' tried a hopeful shot but it was well off target.

Fantastic work from Lewis Rolfe in the 25th minute gave the Canaries another great opportunity to take the lead. The defender ventured upfield with confidence before slipping the ball wide for Williams. Williams then put in another useful cross which met the head of Peacock. It should have been the opener but the forward's header went wide.

Biggleswade started to struggle against the home side's dominance and ultimately looked to play long balls up to target man Kelvin Bossman.

The best chance of the half fell to Peacock in the 30th minute and he should have done better with the opportunity. Brown capitalised on the striker's heavy first touch and did enough to scramble the ball away from the Canary-man's feet.

Just before half time, Ollie Thorne tried the spectacular from long range but his shot was well off target.

Half Time: Hitchin Town 0-0 Biggleswade Town

Hitchin finally took the lead they deserved in the 56th minute and it was Peacock who capitalised on McNamara's clever through-ball and fired past Brown with confidence.

Things went from bad to worse for the visitors in the 69th minute as Ben Ford received a straight red for a foul on McNamara.

In the 79th minute Donnelly saw his low shot saved by the fingertips of Brown.

Biggleswade eventually forced Horlock in to a save in the 80th minute after a strong header from Thorne.

Minutes later, the visitors had a good opportunity to find an equaliser after a foul by David Corran gifted them with a free kick in a dangerous position. Jay Davies, however, fired the ball over the crossbar.

The last action of the game came courtesy of good goalkeeping from Horlock, who correctly rushed out to deny substitute Stuart Farrell - with the Canaries' keeper taking a bit of a knock in the process.
