Hitchin Town 1 Frome Town 1

Saturday, November 29 2014

A late equaliser from Alasan Ann ensured Hitchin picked up a point at home to Frome Town.

Hitchin had the first chance of the game through Nat Peacock, who did well to create himself some space in the box but his shot was off-target.

Moments later, Lucas Kirkpatrick scuffed a long-range strike over the crossbar.

A throw-in to the box from Matt Lench caused problems for the Frome defence as it sailed over to an unmarked Peacock and Jonny McNamara. It was McNamara who took the opportunity but his shot was off-target.

Kris Miller had the opening shot for the visitors but his effort from outside the area went straight in to the arms of Hitchin keeper Charlie Horlock.

McNamara then appealed for a penalty after buckling over in the area from a Miller challenge. The referee, however, was unmoved at his appeal and awarded a goal-kick.

In the latter stages of the first-half, Horlock did well to push Lewis Haldane's strike behind.

Half-Time Hitchin Town 0-0 Frome Town

Frome stated the second-half the brighter side, with Haldane, Ben Thomson and Aaron Rodriguez linking up well before Haldane fired a shot straight at Horlock.

A searching cross from Lench almost met its target in Simon Martin but Frome keeper Darren Chitty was up early to collect.

Thomson then did well to shrug off Alasan Ann and give himself some time to advance on goal but Horlock was off his line early to retrieve the ball from the Frome forward's feet.

Frome then appealed for a penalty after believing there was a handball in the box but the referee was again unmoved by player protests.

A deep cross in to the box from Frome's Ricky Hulbert looked troublesome for the Hitchin defence but Horlock did well to swipe the ball away from danger.

Frome then took the lead in the 72nd minute. It was Thomson who capitalised on Hitchin's moment of weak defending and he proceeded towards goal with pace before slotting past Horlock with a tidy finish.

Hitchin searched for an equaliser but the visitors defended in numbers, making it extremely difficult for the hosts to have any clear opportunities at goal. Although, Simon Martin did strike the crossbar with some force in the 87th minute.

As the game drew closer to its conclusion, it looked like the only possible outcome was going to be a 1-0 win for Frome Town. However, a last minute corner for the home side saw Alasan Ann grab an equaliser and consequently denied the visitors the win.
