Bashley 2011-12
Bashley manager Steve Riley went into the new season pleased that he had strengthened his squad with a batch of new signings. More than seven new faces arrived at the club. Paddy Hester (central midfield) joined on loan from Bournemouth. Ross  Lloyd, James Stokoe and Liam Green all defected from Wimbourne Town, while Matt Finlay and Matt Vokes are both former Bournemouth trainees. Pat Cox came from Gosport Borough. Bashley started the new season well, with a 1-0 win at Evesham followed by a 3-3 draw with Weymouth. Two three-goal defeats raised doubts about Bashley’s defensive qualities, but they have come back with two wins – against Redditch and Swindon Supermarine. The results so far suggest that Riley’s new-look team has yet to become familiar with each other. “We have got quality, but we just don’t seem to be able to gel at the moment,” Riley told the local media.
Bashley finished 11th last season, well clear of relegation problems, but disappointingly below the previous campaign when they missed out on the play-offs by one point. The 2009-10 season was also memorable for a FA Trophy run that ended in defeat against Crawley. Bashley also, fleetingly, topped the Southern League Premier table in October 2009. That season brought back memories of what many consider to be Bashley’s golden period in the early to mid-1990s. The club has rocketed to prominence after dominating the Wessex League, winning the title in 1987, 1988 and 1989. Bashley were promoted into the Southern League South Division and won that, too. In 1991-92, Bashley were in contention for a place in the Conference, but they fell away towards the end of the season and finished fourth. Just two years on, they were relegated and in truth, they have never quite recovered that momentum. The FA Cup also brought some fame and fortune for Bashley. In 1994-95, they reached the second round, losing by a solitary goal to Swansea City.
In more recent times, Bashley won promotion back to the Southern League Premier in 2006-07, enjoying a remarkable 27 game unbeaten run. They won the Southern League South & West Division with 102 points, scoring 111 goals. As well as having the most prolific attack, Bashley also had the meanest defence. In their first season in the Premier, Bashley reached the play-offs, losing to Team Bath.

Since then, Bashley have lacked consistency. In 2008-09, they finished 14th, in 2009-10 seventh and last season 11th. This time around, Riley and his reshaped squad are looking to move forward once more.
