Here is the latest excerpt from the club’s first minute book from 1928:
Meeting held on 19 November
The hon secretary reported that he had an interview with messrs Bailey Hawkins re the provision of a charabanc for the game at Poplar Rovers. They agreed to waive their supplying of the conveyance provided the club pay a nominal extra sum on the other journeys to come. This being the case it was agreed that for the game with Poplar Rovers that the team journey by train.
The result of the friendly on 17 November was Hitchin 1-0 Tufnell Park scorer Sid Brown. Gate receipts were £11 7s 2d while match cards realised £1 2s 0d and ball tickets £2 19s 2d.
A letter was read from the North Herts F A asking the club for the use of the ground on Boxing Day morning for the playing of the Benevolent Shield Final Tie. It was unanimously agreed that use of the ground be granted subject to a kick-off not later than 10.30am.
Meeting held on 26 November
The result of the game on 24 November was Hitchin 3-1 Kempston Rovers scorers Sid Brown, W Barker and Stan Brown. The gate realised £10 2s 10d, match cards £1 1s 6d and ball ticket profit was £1 9s 11d.
The question of linesmen’s flags was brought up and Mr Allen kindly offered to present a pair to the club.
The hon secretary read a letter from the hon secretary of Hertford Town F C asking for the transfer of Stan Brown to his club. The hon secretary refused the transfer as Brown had not approached him in any way and had not fulfilled his obligations. The hon secretary’s actions were endorsed.
Meeting held on 3 December
The Spartan League match at Poplar Rovers played at Walthamstow resulted in a 4-1 victory for Hitchin scorers Thomson 2 and Davey 2. The Beds League game played at Hitchin saw a 4-1 victory over Stevenage scorers J Muncey, H Muncey 2 and Davis. Gate receipts were £10 11s 10d, match cards £1 1s 1d and ball ticket profits £1 14s 0d.
The best thanks of the committee were warmly extended to Mr A Impey for his services in looking after the welfare of the team against Poplar and to Mr Whitehouse for his kindness in piloting the team across London.
It was reported that two pairs of gloves for use by the goalkeepers be purchased.
Meeting held on 10 December
A letter was received from the secretary of the Spartan League with reference to the Spartan League representative match versus Royal Air Force to take place at Hitchin on 16 January 1929. It was resolved that all arrangements be made to make the match an outstanding success.
The result of the Herts Charity Shield game played at Hitchin on 8 December was Hitchin 4-2 Baldock scorers Thomson, Tasker 2,and Womwell. The gate realised £37 6s 8d., match cards £2 19s 9d and ball tickets £3.
Meeting held on 17 December
The result of the Spartan League game at Welwyn Garden City was a 4-3 win for Hitchin scorers Davy 2 Evans and Womwell. The Beds League game with St Neots resulted in a 2-1 defeat Davis being the scorer. Gate receipts were £8 0s 1d.
It was reported that Cheshire was hurt in the match at Welwyn and had to have doctor’s attention.
Mr T Wooding asked the committee’s opinion about the number of match cards required for the Boxing Day match with Metropolitan Police. It was resolved that 1,000 match cards be printed for this match.
