The Hitchin Pro:Direct Academy have had some real success of late. Firstly three of our players were chosen to represent the Pro: Direct Eleven Academy team against two of Europe’s footballing giants. The Pro: Direct Eleven Academy team is chosen from all their various academies throughout the country which means it is a real honour to be chosen. The team is managed by our own academy manager Darren Lathrope.
They beat Arsenal under 17’s 3-2 at their new state of the art training complex. This was a massive achievement for our boys and the team. As you can imagine a lot of exposure was gained on the back of this game and it led to a fixture being arranged against Spurs under 17’s. But what made this even more special was that the game was played at the actual Wembley stadium under floodlights. What an opportunity this was for the Pro: Direct Eleven team and they beat Spurs 1-0 with a late goal, much to the disappointment of their coach Matt Taylor.
The Pro:Direct Eleven squad have had great opportunities and play prestigious opponents. So far six of our players from Pro:Direct Hitchin Academy have represented us in the Pro: Direct Eleven squad and have been involved in winning performances against academy teams from Stevenage and MK Dons as well as Arsenal and Spurs. Congratulation must go to our players as well as Damon Lathrope who is obviously highly thought of to have been chosen as the Pro:Direct Eleven manager and also Josh Mollison who is the goalkeeping coach.
