Hitchin Town Football Club are pleased to announce that Brett Donnelly has returned to the club in a player/coach capacity ahead of the 2019-20 season. Brett was in a similar role at Biggleswade Town last season but has decided to move back to his hometown side after just one season away across the border in Bedfordshire.

The hard-working striker will sign on as a player, but his role will predominantly be of First Team coach, with his vast experience in non-league football a massive bonus for a predominantly young Hitchin Town squad.

Brett has previously made 198 appearances for the Canaries and scored 52 goals – one of only 40 players in the history of the club to surpass the 50-goal landmark.

On Brett’s return, manager Mark Burke said:

“I’m delighted to say that Digger will be returning to Top Field as First Team coach and he’ll undoubtedly play an important part of my backroom team at the club.”

A delighted Brett commented:

“Burks offered me an unbelievable opportunity to come back and help push the club forward with his plans over the next few years. With the history that myself and my family have with the club it was easy for me to take him up on his offer. I’m over the moon to be back and really looking forward to it!”

Hitchin Town Football club will announce more player news over the coming month ahead of pre-season, while pre-season fixture plans will also be announced in the very near future.
