Hitchin Town 5-0 Leighton Town

CHAIRMAN’S PROGRAMME NOTES – DECEMBER 2025

Whilst I would encourage everyone to continue to buy our fantastic matchday programme (thanks to Mick and Peter alongside all the contributors for the countless hours of work that goes into it), I will also now provide a copy of my programme notes at the end of each month so they are available to a wider audience here on our website. So here we have the notes from December’s  programmes:

Enfield – 9th December 2025

I am writing these programme notes with the memory of our match against Leighton Town still strong in the memory. What a fantastic afternoon at Top Field! Firstly, a team to be tremendously proud of – we came in to the game knowing we could win but to do so quite so emphatically really was truly special. Leighton Town were unbeaten in the league this season and only one team had kept a clean sheet against them – Hitchin Town when we visited Bell Close. We expected a real battle and the tightest of margins. The team showed us exactly what they are capable of and throughout the match kept the intensity and determination treating the crowd of 759 to some exceptional football. To enjoy five goals from five different goal scorers and to maintain a clean sheet surpassed the expectations of everyone in the ground. This is of course just one result and we still have a long way to go this season but I am so pleased our home supporters could be rewarded with such a memorable afternoon. The hard work of Michael and the team is all about results like Saturday and we know look to build on that by ensuring we don’t just maintain an unbeaten run but we develop a run of wins to ensure we continue to stay near the top of the league table.

The last time we scored 5 goals at home in a league game was against Alvechurch in September 2020 where the final score was 5-1. We have to go back even further to December 2017 to find a home game where we won by a margin of 5 goals or more. That was our 6-0 win over Kings Langley.

So well done to Michael, well done to every single player and well done to our supporters. The atmosphere you create at Top Field week in week out is fantastic and I hope we continue to see many more performances of that quality over the remaining half of the season. You all deserve to be rewarded with the excitement and enjoyment of watching the level of quality football that we know this squad can produce.

Rayners Lane – 20th December 2025 and Stotfold – 3rd January 2026

Thanks to our Sponsors

A fantastic run of home games from the end of November and into December as we have celebrated 13 goals and 3 clean sheets in the three league games against Leighton Town, Enfield and Flackwell Heath. Thankfully the trouble with getting goals at Top Field seems to be a distant memory and we now look forward to hopefully continuing this run of form into the festive period. Huge well done to the players and management team for delivery performances we can be proud of week in week out.

This time around I wanted to use my programme notes to thank all of our sponsors. The support they provide the club makes a huge difference to the club’s finances and supports many of the things we look to achieve. We are very fortunate to have such a fantastic group of sponsors. This is everyone from our key sponsors all the way through to our player and matchday sponsors.
Over the last few months, we have welcomed several new sponsors with pitchside boards. These are a very affordable way to get your brand in front of the Hitchin Town supporters. The response to player sponsorships this season has also been outstanding with the best ever takeup. We also have our continuing major sponsors including Screenbond, Stapletons Tyre Services, Boxalls, IDnet and Modern Networks. They have been joined this season by Global Ardour Recycling who have taken up several key opportunities.

There are far too many sponsors to name individually here but to each and every one of them a personal thank you from me for continuing to support the club in this way particularly during challenging economic times.

If you wish to join them in showing your businesses support for the club and gaining brand presence then please email: commercial@hitchintownfc.club
I hope everyone associated with Hitchin Town has a great Christmas and New Year and I look forward to an exciting 2026!
