Report

On Thursday night Hitchin won the Vince Paige Cup after winning 3-1 on penalties after the game was drawn 1-1. Letchworth took the lead with a penalty after 9 minutes and on a difficult playing surface Hitchin were not at their best. Chances were missed up to half time but as the game went on Hitchin became more dominant. Jonny McNamara equalised following a good move in the 87th minute. This was after Hitchin had three goals ruled out for offside and hit the woodwork.

Academy keeper Josh Mollison was the hero of the penalty shoot-out saving three penalties. Lewis Rolfe, McNamara and Ben Walster scored for Hitchin with Elliot Bailey and Daniel Olaniran missing.

The evening celebrated the life of Vince Paige and saw the new Letchworth floodlights officially opened and was well attended by Letchworth supporters. It was good to see Carl Williams playing for Letchworth and still looking really fit.

From a Hitchin viewpoint it was not a memorable performance but vital match time was given to players who needed it.

Team – Johnson (Mollison 46), Syme, Walster, Cotter (Smith 46), Webb (Rolfe 46), Byrne, Kirkpatrick (Barnes 60), McNamara, Donnelly (Bailey 75), Logan (Olaniran 46), Charles
