Report
Manager Mark Burke fielded a mixture of first team players, squad players and trialists for the annual Vince Paige Trophy match against Letchworth Garden City Eagles, which gave him the opportunity to look at potential new talent and for some, much needed match time.
It proved very successful as Hitchin ran out winners by five goals to nil and retained the Vince Paige Trophy – their first silverware of the season!
Goals came from Jamie Jellis, slotting home from close range after trailist Henry Snee (from Shefford and Campton Rovers) had his shot saved by the Letchworth keeper, a hat-trick from trialist Rio Da Silva (who last season played for Dunstable Town), and on his first appearance for the club, recent signing Daniel Cirjan, who in the final seconds of the game waltzed round the Letchworth defence to slot the ball into the net with the last kick of the game.
So all in all a good workout for the Canaries, and a sound win.
