For our game against Leiston on Saturday 21st December, Hitchin Town Football Club will be showing its support for the FA’s “Rainbow Laces” campaign, which aims to draw attention of LGBT+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) inclusion in football. This has already been fully supported by the Premier League, the EFL and the Barclays FA Women’s Super League, and now thousands of FA Grassroots clubs are lending their support to the campaign.

Whilst the campaign end date for 2019 will have passed, because of the way that dates for our home games have fallen during December and because of the local LGBT+ initiative going on this day, we still feel it is appropriate for the Club to show its support in our aspiration to become a fully inclusive Club that seeks to welcome all to Top Field.

The team will be wearing Rainbow Laces for this game, and it is hoped that subject to availability of laces, other playing staff and club volunteers, and supporters, will support the campaign by doing likewise. We sincerely hope that as many of you will attend the game and support the campaign, maybe by wearing laces or purchasing some merchandise in support.

If you would be interested in supporting the LGBT+ community for this game by wearing Rainbow Laces along with the team and staff, please email clubadmin@hitchintownfc.club by Monday 16th December, in order that we might be able to obtain sufficient supplies of laces.

On this day, we will also be supporting the local LGBT+ community by offering a small stock of “Proud to be Hitchin” T-Shirts and Sweatshirts, and mugs, for sale in the Supporters’ Club Shop. The local LGBT+ community will be holding a “Drag Crawl” in the town on the afternoon of Saturday 21st December. This will start at The George PH at 4:00pm and will take the following route, should anyone wish to participate or join the crawl later:

  • 4:00-4:30 The George
  • 4:40-5:10 The Kite
  • 5:20-5:50 Half Moon
  • 6:00-6:30 The Hermitage
  • 6:40-7:10 Cinnabar
  • 7:15-7:45 Osinskys
  • 7:50-8:20 Rose and Crown
  • 8:20-8:50 Speak Easy
  • 9:00-9:30 Snug
  • 9:40 at the Pitcher and Piano.

A donation for the sale of each item of merchandise will be made to the Haven for the homeless in Hitchin, which is one of the Club’s supported charities for this season.

Thank you for your support of the Club in this venture.
