‘HOP FIELD 1871’ WINS THE DAY

For all of you who kindly contributed to the ale naming competition – thanks indeed. It was not an easy task, deliberating over the twenty five or so suggestions made, but finally we agreed that Hop Field 1871 just edged it.

Some close runners up were Sweet F Ale, Thirst Round Proper, Canary Juice, Top Field Tipple and Hitchale 1871. To everyone who submitted a suggestion, thanks for bothering and don’t worry about not winning, I wasn’t about to offer you free beer in any case.
A small contingent from the Club (Alan Clark and I) met with Andy, Tim and Flo from our beer sponsors IDnet the other Friday to participate in the brewing process under the watchful eye of head brewer Nick Rolfe. Measuring the ingredients and stirring the mash were just part of the fun, as is evident from the attached pictures. Can’t wait to get tucked into that first pint!

The good news is that the fermentation process is well under way and we are confident that the ale should be available in the Canary Club from the first week in September. Sadly no home draw in the Cup, but a winnable game up at the Waders. Maybe get in a few 1871s before setting off to the game and celebrating the win afterwards with a few more?
