The FA Cup tie with Godmanchester felt like Groundhog Day because as in previous seasons we conceded an early goal to lower league opposition giving them something to hold on to. Subsequently we did not play the style of football that we like to play because of the lack of confidence triggered by the early goal.

We became anxious and we tried to force the play which resulted in numerous mistakes being made together with misplaced passes. We could not get in to any kind of rhythm while Godmanchester should be complemented for working hard to shut us down.

However unlike in previous seasons we eventually made the breakthrough and then punished a Godmanchester side that had become very weary. I must credit our players who kept going to the end and never gave up. I was pleased with the contribution of the three substitutes who all made an impact.

I was just as frustrated as our supporters that we were not playing the football we have become accustomed to and the relief of the players was there for all to see when the second goal went in.

While we are playing nowhere near as well as I would like I do believe we are making progress. I know things are not exactly right but I urge supporters to be patient. Except for the freak result at Needham Market we have been competitive in all the other games we have played. If comparisons are made to last season we were well beaten by Kettering and Banbury at Top Field but this year I felt we deserved a point from each game and this against two teams still unbeaten this season. We also drew at unbeaten Biggleswade having lost to them last year. Also last season we crashed out to Haringey in the FA Cup (and Faversham the previous season) whereas we came through on Saturday against Godmanchester. So please keep the faith and continue with your great support.
