There was a fundamental design flaw with Canary Corner (for me anyway) in that I was too small to see over the counter so my Dad had to choose my sweets for me. Windy Corner was always viewed through a dense fog of half-time cigarette smoke, different times. Wonderful memories

Hitchin was a working class town back then with people born & bred supporting their team. It was standing room only in the windy corner Tea Room with the Bedford Road exits opened at the end to assist crowd dispersal

I’m guessing that’s why there’s a Passingham Avenue in Hitchin. The history of Hitchin & its people is fascinating (to me anyway)
