Re: Founding Fathers (2)
Thank you, Stuart. Revisiting the original article, below, I realised my memory caused a couple of mistakes to be made in my summary of the race. F. Shillitoe did not win it, but presented the cup ('handsome two-handled' not necessarily silver!) to the winner Logsdon. He did lead off as one of the h...

Re: Hitchin FC: Founding Fathers (1)
One of many typos, no doubt, Stuart! Thank you for pointing it out. If it's the only way to get a reaction on this quiet bit of the forum, perhaps I should start making typos on purpose...........

John Pardoe: Local Hero
Reverend John Pardoe, the man I consider the driving force behind the first Hitchin F.C, founded in 1865. A selected chronology of the life and times of a super Hitchinite, who deserves better than his usual simple description as Hitchin F. C's first ever club secretary. 1st April 1839 John Pardoe i...

Hitchin F.C: An Auspicious Beginning
Reading Martin Westby's excellent book 'England's Oldest Clubs 1815- 1889: A new chronological classification of early football', I was surprised to see that the origin of Hitchin FC is listed as (formed by) Players from another club (Forest FC). I immediately assumed that this was an error until I ...

Re: South Eastern League 1901-8 & others
I have corrected a match in my list played on Saturday 14th October 1905 to show the correct home ground. A match well documented by Neil! Apologies.
I have removed Hitchin v Brighton thought to have been played 11th March 1905, because I can find no evidence for it.

Re: South Eastern League 1901-8 & others
I have not prepared a spread sheet, as research is at an early stage, with lots of info still to be found. Should have enough for a chronological list within a few ............................ months?????? I have confirmed the Wanderers friendly games by reading Rob Cavallini's super publication 'Th...

THE SOUTH EASTERN LEAGUE The following extract from Saturday's 'Football Star' may be of interest:- Of new leagues which have been established since the close of last season, perhaps one of the most important is the South Eastern, which seems to have caused more than ordinary trouble at Chancery Lan...
