Re: LGBTQ+ Supporters club Commitee members wanted
Nice to see an organised group of Hitchin Town supporters. Nicer still if there was a supporters' club for fans of all and every persuasion. An exclusive group seems to be putting the cart before the horse?

Re: Hitchin F.C: An Auspicious Beginning
The first Hitchin Football Club was founded by the Reverend John Pardoe, assisted by Cecil Frederick Reid and other Forest FC & Wanderers players. John Pardoe was given the task of spreading the 'association game' into Hertfordshire by Charles Alcock (of the Wanderers). Joined by local 'gentlema...

Re: Best Book Hitchin Town History
For the early history of the first Hitchin Football Club, the Talk Football section of our forum is useful. Search 'An Auspicious Beginning'. There you'll find match reports and local press comments. And Francis Shillitoe did not live at Foxholes (William Tindall Lucas did!)

Re: The Complete Alf D'Arcy
From the Sutton & Epsom Advertiser Thursday 28th August 1952 SUTTON HAD FORWARD WEAKNESSES SUTTON UNITED 1 HITCHIN 2 It may be hard to believe, but Hitchin, the wooden spoonists of last season, opened their Athenian League programme at Sutton by creating the biggest surprise of the day (writes W...

Re: Prediction - LEAMINGTON
Strange that Pipeman's match report mentions the 50/51 season as being the worst. 51/52 was far worse. Taking league games only in 50/51 we had 18 points from 30 games (30%). In 51/52 11 points from 30 games (18.33%). I agree there were 20 defeats in 50/51 (18 league 2 other). In 51/52 we suffered 2...

The Complete Alf D'Arcy
Hitchin were struggling in the very early 50s. A five game cameo by Alf D'Arcy before he went on to greater things with Barnet helped raise the gloom, perhaps. Match 1: 29th April 1952 (at the end of HTFC's worst-ever season!) Herts Charity Cup Final. Hitchin 1 Barnet 4. Match 2: 23rd August 1952. A...

Dunstable Town 3 London Lions 2
With both teams stuck in mid-table, I was pleased that they went at it hammer and tongs; a fine advert for Step 5 South Midlands League football. 1-2 down with 5 minutes to play, Town conjured up two late goals to edge the match. Crosses win matches. In the first half Town were being constantly pull...

Re: An absolute gentleman
A gentleman, indeed. Smiles and kind words shared with the fans will be remembered fondly. Hard to believe that his first games were with the likes of Tony Luff, Steve Miller, Paul Giggle and the late John Woodward. (Fishponder Stats are so entertaining!)
