Alternative report by Up 'yer' Pipe

Post by Greenfinch »

When Henry Snee came on for the last 10mins against Royston, he made an immediate impact on the match. Today Mark gave him the opportunity to carry on the good work, and link up with Callum Stead, and the pair of them causing all sorts of problems to the Biggleswade defenders. The whole team worked hard, and the passing was so much better, albeit we were allowed time on the ball, and the penalty gave the team a confidence boost. Nevertheless, this was an excellent performance, and Hitchin exploited their high back line defence with deft passing and the aforementioned striking duo.I must give credit to Biggleswade, they played their part in an entertaining match, with no whinging or surrounding the ref, no late tackles or diving, and well refereed.
My man of the match Henry Snee.

Good performance on a difficult pitch I felt. Very bumpy and if we was ever going to play a passing game it simply would not have worked on that pitch.

Good performance by the lads and really happy we have a real banana skin out the way.

Interesting to read Waders twitter report on game. Made no mention of any of our goals specifically- other than "still losing 1 - 0 etc"

Thankfully, failing to mention any of the events involving the Hitchin team does not alter the result.

Very curious?

Tearle, Jones and Snee all acquitted themselves very well and rewarded Mark's boldness in selecting them.

Good shout Mick.

Thought our shape looked so much better with Henry Snee up front with Callum. There were times in the first half when both Henry and Luke were further forward than Callum who dropped back to support the midfield. It also allowed our passing game to work better as Callum wasn't on his own trying to hold the ball.

We have to accept Biggleswade were not the same sort of force as Banbury or Royston and I think we could still do with a couple of experienced players to help mould this very good group of youngsters into a really good side. Some great finishes yesterday. Luke's shot was in the angle the moment he hit it and Callum's goal was a real poachers effort for a seemingly impossible angle.

Yesterday was all about penalties. Great penalty from Alex which put us in control of the game, Elliot Bailey scored a 79th minute penalty for Welwyn to see them draw 2-2 whilst Harry Draper had his 89th minute penalty saved by the Mildenhall keeper as they beat Royston 2-1 in the shock of the day.

Shout out to Henry Snee's grandad who was a very proud man in the car park after the game.

Went to see if there was a match report on the Waders' website, but the most recent one appears to be from April 2018.

Highlights again how lucky we are with our volunteers on all aspects of the media side of things at Hitchin - written, spoken, photographical and social, which many other clubs at our level cannot match.

Gutted to have missed yesterday (not so much Monday!) and really hope to be back for a repeat performance against Barwell.

Have to say, we really did get it right on Saturday. Balance much better, with Henry up alongside Callum it eased the pressure not only on him but on Luke Brown as well - midfield were having to pick him up rather than the spare centre half getting out of his deck chair when Callum is up there on his own (only takes one centre half to mark one forward). Henry is improving all the time, and I am sure that his first competitive goal is not far away.

A reasonable draw in the next round. It's doable for sure.
