After watching Hitchin for decades, this is not the first time we have gone out of the FA cup early to a disappointing performance.Wisbech Town at home springs to mind among many others.Nevertheless, after good wins at Biggleswade and a late winner at home to Barwell the team seemed to have turned a corner, and watching them embrace the fans was the icing on the cake, and cemented a good relationship.
This gave Mark the confidence, to leave Adam in charge of team affairs on the day,and with no disrespect to Mark, I don't think the result would have been any different,as the whole team chased shadows throughout.
Cheshunt had us watched, and their fast forwards shut us down, we seemed edgy playing the ball out of defence, and had to use the long ball, and as Cheshunt didn't play with a high line defence, we couldn't chip the ball over or through to our main threat of Callum.
The sun was shining, the pitch was immaculate, the fans were packed at the Bedford Road end, with lots of Yellow glistening, 'Come on Hitchin' you can do this.Alas it all turned sour within 5mins.We know they can play better than this, they too are feeling the pain, but over the years our loyal fans get used to it. We will still be back on the terraces, because we are true supporters, but sometimes in the FA Cup, this is what we do.
This Is What We Do
