Prediction - REDDITCH

Post by steve.max »

An evenly contested if somewhat scrappy match with both teams taking a point. Hitchin improved in the second half but we can`t keep a clean sheet or hold a lead.

Congratulations to the prediction winners: Frank King, John Ross, Elaine Craddock, The Cat`s Pyjamas, Andy Wise, Janice Berry and Colin Ridgway.

Our performance in the first half was probably the worst of the season. The Redditch keeper did not have a shot to save nor a cross to take out. The sum of his efforts were to take two goal kicks and three back passes. Going forward we had no pace or cohesion. It was really that bad.

Second half didn't start much better and we started to lay odds on a result. Consensus was about 50/50 on it ending 0-0 or 0-1 to Redditch. Chances of 1-0 to Hitchin being about 10 to 1. Someone said 1,000 to 1. Then astonishingly seemingly from nowhere we scored and things began to improve somewhat, but yet again we were unable to hold onto a lead, failing to close down a player despite there being plenty of opportunity to do so.

There is still time to get out of this mess, but the optimism of a few weeks ago has faded badly.

Thanks for your comments Jackie.

Actually the defence played reasonably well. The first half was totally uneventful but Redditch had the better of it without causing too much trouble. So we were pretty solid but showed very little else. Second half we scored from our first real chance and as I said things began to look up. As time progressed we couldn't see Redditch scoring but then almost as unexpected as was our goal they scored from their only chance of the half. A well taken goal but he was allowed too much time unchallenged before getting his shot away.

The team tried hard as ever but the quality going forward, especially now that Callum Stead has moved on, just doesn't seem to be there.
