Relegation and PPG

Post by RST »

I think this topic needs its own thread to avoid being cluttered up with other discussions.

The general understanding of the relegation process up until now was that the bottom two teams in each of the four Step 3 divisions would be relegated along with the team with the worst PPG from the four 3rd from bottom teams.

Terry's programme notes yesterday state that it will in fact be the four bottom placed teams who are relegated along with the 5 teams with the worst PPG, with a maximum of three teams being relegated from any of the four divisions.

As things stand, this is the current position with the four bottom placed teams underlined and the five additional teams highlighted with asterisks.

Assuming my maths are correct, Hitchin are currently in the final relegation spot.

Wimborne 0.47
Merthyr 0.56 **
Leatherhead 0.65
East Thurrock 0.73 **
Grantham 0.76
Dorchester 0.823 **
Kings Langley 0.828
Biggleswade 0.833
Lowestoft 0.84 **
Hitchin 0.906 **
Cray Wanderers 0.914
Witton Albion 0.937
Brightlingsea 0.939
Bromsgrove 1.0
Merstham 1.0
Hartley Wintney 1.0
Wingate & Finchley 1.0

Rupe - I'll give the thread sticky status so we can keep it firmly on the radar. We were out of the relegation spot until Cray Wanderers won yesterday.

It just shows though how three points means so much more now than one. Looking at yesterday, would the right decision have been to protect the point we had and were not expecting, or to have gambled and put on the fast boy Johnny Allotey up front for the last 10-15 to get at the Peterborough Sports' centre backs who we knew were strapped for pace?

No points yesterday would have put us in the relegation zone. One point put us in the relegation zone. Three points would have kept us out of it. Three points took Cray out of the relegation zone.

Win or not lose, that is the question........

Thanks for the stickyisation Chris.

A tricky question you have posed, but at this stage I would err on the side of caution and be glad to keep the points total ticking over in a game against one of the high fliers.

On to Tuesday and we'll all be Folkstone fans as they take on Brightlingsea!!!

Ok, so Roy has managed to get official confirmation that we are back to where we were with the bottom two teams from each of the four Step 3 divisions being relegated along with the third from bottom team with the worst PPG from the four divisions.

I'll update the stats after the weekend's game on that basis.

Not sure how my 1981 Maths O'level would correspond with a 2022 GCSE!

It seems that Terry and Roy have both spoken to people at the FA and have received differing opinions as to how the final relegation places will be worked out, so for the time being below you will find the latest PPG with the teams' position in their league denoted with one asterisk for bottom place, two asterisks for second bottom etc.

The FA's end of season party in a brewery should be a belter.

Wimborne 0.455 *
Merthyr 0.543 **
East Thurrock 0.706 *
Leatherhead 0.714 **
Grantham 0.771 *
Kings Langley 0.806 ***
Dorchester 0.886 ****
Cray Wanderers 0.888 ***
Biggleswade 0.903 *
Lowestoft 0.906 **
Witton Albion 0.909 **
Brightlingsea 0.943 ****
Nuneaton 0.943 *****
Hartley Wintney 0.944 *****
Bromsgrove 0.969 ***
Hitchin 0.970 ****
Merstham 0.971 *****

Of the nine teams on the list above who played last night, Biggleswade and Hitchin were the only two to win, whilst all the rest lost. They were:
Wimborne, East Thurrock, Leatherhead, Grantham, Dorchester, Witton and Merstham.

All in all a pretty good night for the Canaries

If this update is your attempt at updating the PPGs Rupert... then it's a half-hearted effort!

Come along, chop chop to the actual PPG figures update please. ;)

I'm glued to this thread after each round of fixtures by the way.
