Well what a marvellous start to the season.
Last season I seem to remember we rarely got anything out of a game when we went behind, so to come home with three points after trailing at half time is a great result. Barwell may have played the second half with only 10 men, but how often have we failed to make the most of that advantage.
Well done lads, in the play-off zone

It's always a great feeling to win the first game of the season. Well done all round.

Great to get a win on the first day of the season, builds confidence and sets us off on a positive vibe.

Congratulations Mark, can anyone remember the last time we won away from home on the first day of the season?
Re: Barwell 1 - 2 Hitchin
Good question. Im stumped. Can think of about 5 home wins on the opening day in the last 15 years but struggling to remember an away win.Greenfinch wrote: ↑Sat Aug 06, 2022 7:46 pm Congratulations Mark, can anyone remember the last time we won away from home on the first day of the season?

On the commentary it mentioned over 20 years and looking at Fishponder's Stats it looks as if it may have been 14/8/1999 a 3-2 win at Heybridge with Zeema Abbey, Adam Parker (whatever happened to him?) and Gary Dixon filling the onion bag.Greenfinch wrote: ↑Sat Aug 06, 2022 7:46 pm Congratulations Mark, can anyone remember the last time we won away from home on the first day of the season?
Between those three, they scored our first 14 league goals of that season until the 19th of October when Darren Fenton scored a brace and someone called Mark Burke chipped in with another. Adam Parker scored the fourth in a 4-3 win over Aylesbury.
Did someone mention the word digression?

According to Fishponder Stats
19 Aug 2000 1-0 win away at Purfleet with Stuart Beevor getting the goal.
