KEN BROWN
Kenneth Maples Brown, the centre-forward for the Hitchin Town Reserves, is a Hitchin-born lad.
He commenced his football career as a member of the Hitchin British School team, for whom he played for three years, during which time he was vice-captain, and won two medals. One was a Wix Shield finalist's medal, and the other a Hitchin and District School's Shield winner's distinction. While he was at school Ken played for Hitchin and District in the match v. Watford, when Hitchin lost by two goals to three. Brown then signed on for Hitchin Wednesday, and played for them for two years as their centre-half. Last year he played twice for Hertford Town Reserves before he signed on for the Hitchin Club, for whom he has since played. Ken is the brother of Sid Brown, who plays for Hertford Town, and of Stan Brown, the well-known cricketer. Ken is a very promising cricketer himself, and is equally good with the bat or the ball, or in the field. He plays for Hitchin Town C.C. first eleven.
In addition to his other accomplishments, Ken Brown always entertains with songs the other footballers on the 'bus' on their return from an away match. Sometimes he sings all the way there, as well as all the way back, so that his song album is somewhat extensive. Whether Hitchin win or lose he cheers the other players with his 'chirping'.
Ken Brown is a clever forward, and when once he gets going he walks through all opposition.
