GEORGE GROVES

Hubert George Groves is one of Hitchin's younger players, and one who should have a bright football career before him.
Groves, who was born in London, first played football as a member of the Hitchin C.L.B. team. He then signed on for Pirton Athletic, and while he was playing for that team they topped the third division of the North Herts League, and won through to the semi-final of the Greg Cup, in which they were defeated by Letchworth Rovers. At the beginning of this season he signed on for Hitchin Town, and has played for the reserves at outside-left, outside-right, and inside-right. A fortnight ago, for the first time he played for the first team in place of Walker, who was unable to play. Groves is a very hard and happy worker and he smiles whether Hitchin are winning or losing. He has a very fast turn of speed, and it needs a very smart back to rob him of the ball.
