The death of the Canadian folk singer on Monday reminded me of his namesake, Hitchin Town FC's Gordon Lightfoot.
Our Gordon Lightfoot was described in the local press as 'a loyal and popular player for 5 seasons' 23 Aug 1947 to 29 Sep 1951 before he left for pastures new. His debut against Hayes resulted in a 1-4 home defeat; his swansong in an FA Cup 1QR at home to Eynesbury Rovers was a 1-7 defeat.
