Alternative Report Hitchin 2 Alvechurch 0

Post by Greenfinch »

Well, the highlight of this match was the two goals of the highest quality. Alvechurch started this match with all guns blazing, and could easily have been two or three goals up before halftime, but for the heroics of Charlie Horlock, with Hitchin replying with only one shot on target. But somehow we got to halftime goalless, but not before their centre half got sent off for a second bookable offence. The second half started much the same way, but eventually Hitchin started to push the ball around more comfortably, and started to make chances of their own, which produced the goals already mentioned. The defence still had to work hard, and did well to contain the ten men of Alvechurch, who I thought were a very good team. However, Hitchin showed class and commitment, and although after making a slow start took the three points, and sets us up nicely for the next match away to Long Eaton.

What a strange game.

We were really slow out of the blocks and seemed quite devoid of ideas in the first half probably due to the way Alvechurch came at us.
If it wasn't for Charlie and the defence we could have been dead and buried by half time. Thought Toby Syme was outstanding at the back.

The sending off of the Alvechurch centre half on the stroke of half time and Jack Snelus's wonder free kick finish at the beginning of the second half totally turned the game on it's head.

It gave Hitchin a bit of breathing space and having the extra man, Hitchin could play their passing game.

Alvechurch still looked very dangerous but Fin Wilkinson's pin point header with 15 mins to go sealed the victory.

As the game drew to a close, large gaps appeared in the Alvechurch defence and we hit them on the break on numerous occasions. The score could have been double if not for a couple of quality saves from the Alvechurch keeper.

Great to see Daniel Idiakhoa back at Top Field. One of most supporters biggest gripes is we don't have much on the bench to change things.
Diego, Kye Teale, Stan, Daniel and Ashley Hay - lots of options and quality to bring on.

An excellent result against a side who really look like they could be one to watch this season.

A great start to the season.

So I guess that's an assist from Galliford followed by an assist from Bell? Would be great if we could get more detailed stats on games at Hitchin's level- it's overdue in my opinion.
