An even first 15 mins but one great save from Johnson.
Both teams have fielded strong sides.
Shot by Kane gathered by Russell.
St Albans through ball that Kane takes off the feet of Merson for a corner.
CLOSE - Header from Callum that glances back off the post
Lucien cuts inside for St Albans and shoots over.
Cureton in lots of space and not offside - but the defence copes.
HALF TIME St Albans 0 Hitchin Town 0 - giving as good as we get so far.

A very enjoyable game of football that we shaded.
We were well worth the victory and a home tie in the semi final.
I hope MJ is ok as was limping at the end and the snow that's forecast for Friday/Saturday doesn't mean Saturdays game is called off meaning a midweek trip to Wales!

We played some terrific football tonight and did not look at all out of place against a team from a higher level who started at least six of the team who played against their League leaders Maidenhead last Saturday.

At 2-0 thought we were done. But Kane grabbed one back straight after the second St.Albans goal which kept us in the game, and three minutes from the end, just as we hit the bar and were starting to believe we'd get nothing for all our sterling efforts, up popped Will Wright to head in Robbie Burns' cross. Five very calm and accomplished penalties (good to see Lewis score one ) and we thoroughly deserved our win.

So, home to Cheshunt or Leverstock Green. We're not giving up the Herts Senior Cup without a fight. Here's hoping we'll be in the final saying to the formerly absent masses: "Where were you at Hadley"?? :paperbag:

If my maths is correct, St Albans started with 9 of the players in the squad for Saturday's top of the table draw against Maidenhead, and then brought Theophanous on later on. So this was all the more creditable. One narrow defeat against a Conference South side and one deserved victory against another certainly bodes well!

Make no mistake there were some excellent passing moves and fantastic movement off the ball. Work rate was impressive too with most of the St Albans' threat via the long ball or throw in to some pretty big units.
With our balls forward often at chest and floor level the two big central defenders were asked some telling questions. With a "fox in the box" one wonders what half chances could have been converted. However, we are a team that works hard and earns goals which can come from all around the team- that poses problems for any opposition.
So proud at the performance last night - roll on the semi!
As I have never seen Hitchin win in some 4 visits to Merthyr, I am giving them every chance by staying at home!! Lets hope all recover from their exertions.
