29th November 1884

A match between Hitchin Football Club and the recently formed Hitchin Rangers Football Club was played on Saturday afternoon and resulted in a victory for the former by three goals to one. (Herts & Cambs Reporter & Royston Crow Friday 5th December 1884.)

29th November 1969

A crowd of 198 sees Hitchin Town beat Harlow 3-1 at Top Field in the London Senior Cup Round 1.
Scorers for the Canaries were Roy Cutler (1) & Bernie Gogan (2).
I don't want to spoil it for those who would rather wait to see how we progressed in this competition, but Tony Harley told me earlier this year that winning the Final was the highlight of his time at Top Field................................................

With St Albans currently bottom of the National League South, I wonder if we may get to resume league hostilities against them next season. Another 6-0 would go down well

6th December 2014
Save Top Field march through town. Generations of Canaries fans join together on a fine sunny day, assembling at Butts Close. Many tales shared about 'Battling' Barry Butterfield ('e warnt ear long enuff'), 'Magic' Mick Every and others lost in the mists of time. The match against Poole Town ended 1-0, with an 89th minute goal from captain Dan Webb. Attendance 1606.

8th December 1934 Hitchin Town 6 (Sid King, Cyril Walker, Eddie Armitage, Les Clarke (2), and an o.g) Maidenhead 3 G.T Copas (3)

One I missed yesterday was the 7-1 rout of Enfield Town at Top Field on 7th December 2002. This match marked the return of the great Gary Williams for the final 10 games (no goals) of his Hitchin playing days. He played this game at number 3. Scorers were Matt Nolan (3), Dean Brennan (2), and Carl Drew (2). Dean Coppard for Enfield.
