I don't usually choose a defeat to highlight, but this match happened eighty years ago on 16th December 1939, in the Herts & Middx Combination.
Enfield 5 (J. Calley (2), L. Dutton (2), A. S. Morgan. Hitchin 1 (Jack Hoar, pen)

I remember that well, "gutted" springs to mind for me on that day!!
If music be the football of life, play on (extra time and pens if necessary)

21st December 1907 South Eastern League

On Saturday, at the Crescent, Selhurst, Croydon Common received a visit from Hitchin Town in this League. The visitors arrived late and as the referee stopped play about ten minutes before time, owing to bad light, the game was not finished. The score stood in favour of Hitchin by three goals to one. It was rather a poor game.

24th December 1932 Herts Charity Cup 1

Letchworth Town 0 Hitchin Town 1 (Jimmy Walker)

147 goals in 179 appearances by Jimmy Walker between 1930 and 1935. He and Eddie Armitage were perhaps the most successful striking partnership in our history?

9th January 1993

Uxbridge 1 Hitchin 2 (Mark McGonagle 2)
A match I attended in the Burke/Miller/Scott era, and of course including Mad Dog.
