HITCHIN BICYCLE CLUB
The races in connection with this club came off on Saturday on Bedford Road. The weather was fine, and there was a large assembly of spectators. All the races were won by Hitchin bicyclists.
The following was the result:
One Mile Race: Mr Ord
Five Mile Race: Mr A.Roberts
Ten Mile Race: Mr T.Ransom

BICYCLE CLUB RACES
The Hitchin Bicycle Club held their annual races on Saturday last on the Bedford Road. The judges were Mr Crandstone Woodhead and Mr A.Latchmore. Mr F.Ransom and Mr F.Shillitoe acted as starters.
The races were as follows:
One Mile: H.G.Warren (Tuffnell Bicycle Club), 1st, T.H.Meager (Leighton Zephyr Bicycle Club), 2nd, R.F.Tower (Hitchin Bicycle Club), 3rd.
Two Mile Race: C.E.Page (Baldock), 1st, P.T.Harris (Hitchin), 2nd, C.B.Fisher (Hitchin), 3rd.
Ten Mile (Open) Handicap: G.Barber, 1 minute, (Shefford), 1st, H.H.Brinley, 2.5 minutes, (Bedford Amateur Bicycle Club), 2nd, R.F.Tower, 3.5 minutes, (Hitchin), 3rd.

REMARKABLE CYCLE RIDE
Mr E.Oxborrow, of the Aeolus Bicycle Club, has recently accomplished an extraordinary day's journey on a 'Facile' Safety Bicycle. Starting from Hitchin at midnight on August 25th he rode via Peterborough, Long Sutton, Lynn, and Swaffham to Norwich and back as far as Biggleswade, which place he reached at two minutes to midnight on the 26th, having thus covered a distance of 263 miles in the 24 hours. This is within 3.5 miles of the present record, which was made last year by Mr J.H.Adams, who also rode a 'Facile' bicycle.

The annual meeting of the Hitchin Cyclists Club was held on the evening of March 25th. Mr F.Shillitoe was chosen captain for the year, Mr E.C.Jackson sub-captain, and Mr F.Ransom honorary secretary and treasurer.

In a twenty-four hours' cycle road ride from Hitchin, on Saturday, P.A.Nix, Brixton Ramblers, on a geared 'Facile' beat the record by covering 293.5 miles.

The Hitchin CC, an older formation than the Hitchin Rovers CC, and a non-racing club, held its annual meeting on Friday, Dr Frank Shillitoe continuing to hold the office of secretary.

CYCLIST'S DEATH AT HITCHIN
Cycling from Spalding, Lincolnshire, to London on Monday, Charles Worboys collided with a dog in Hitchin. He fell, and his skull was fractured. He died shortly afterwards. Mr Worboys leaves a wife and six children.

As Dorothy Winifred Oliver, a 20 year old W.A.A.F., whose home is at [Hexton Post Office] Hitchin, Hertfordshire, was cycling with three other girls past a West Midlands RAF landing ground in daylight she was killed by a shot from a sentry's rifle. At the inquest last night a verdict of 'accidental death' was recorded.

Ken Williams (Polytechnic C.C.) a hot favourite with the crowd, swept off with a neat victory in the 880 yards handicap, when he pipped Tony Huckle (Hitchin Nomads) on the post in a well-timed finish. (At the Cambridge Whit Monday Gala at the City F.C. ground)
