Ah yes Spiral - the Keystone Cops of the Paris police who always manage to mess everything up and still manage to solve the case in the end. Not sure why we keep watching it really, but we do!

I excluded comedy police drama from my list. From that genre I would pick Kate Beckett or Temperance Brennan. :-D

I probably shouldn't admit this, but sorry Antony, I have never heard of any of your top five characters and Rough Justice is the only prog I have heard of. :paperbag:

My picks show that I have been watching too much TV on Friday and Saturday evenings on BBC4 and More4, instead of getting out and enjoying myself. I have also omitted the top male police characters because there are so many to choose from. My first memories of watching TV were in the days of Fabian of The Yard, Dixon of Dock Green and No Hiding Place, when primitive studio scenery was often in a state of collapse. Regan and Carter would probably be 999th equal on my list..............................................

I remember Z Cars with a young Brian Blessed (Fancy Smith) in his first TV role, back then most of these shows were broadcast live so very few recordings survive.

Our house is a much happier place now Spiral is back... I love Berthaud, Judge Roban is probably my favourite character in the show but obviously not a cop or flic..

Sarah Lund was pretty great too, I can only assume Anthony had an allergic reaction to the type of wool she wore
