Brought in as cover for 'Tiddler' Cannon, Charlie Bracey would sadly play just one match for the Canaries, at Aylesbury United on Saturday 19th November 1932. Hitchin won the match 1-0.
The Bucks Herald of Friday 25th November 1932 reports:
Goalkeeper Seriously Injured
Local sportsmen will read with regret of the serious injury which befel G.E.Bracey, the Hitchin Town goalkeeper, at Aylesbury on Saturday. How the accident occurred is not quite clear, but Bracey was seen to fall after colliding with Hazell, the Aylesbury centre forward. It is thought that Bracey came into contact with Hazell's foot. He was carried off the field in great pain, but the attention of the trainers and ambulance men in the dressing room appeared satisfactory, and Bracey was able to attend the dinner. Afterwards he collapsed in the street and was conveyed to the Royal Bucks Hospital, where his condition was considered to be so serious as to warrant his detention. It was found he was suffering from internal trouble, and at one time an operation was deemed advisable. Late enquiries elicit the fact that he is making slow progress. Bracey is well known in the district, as he formerly assisted Leighton United, Luton Amateurs and Luton Town Reserves. It was his first appearance for Hitchin.
