Post by MJCANARY11 » Sat Oct 12, 2019 5:19 pm

Well done Hitchin.
Excellent result against one of the best footballing sides I’ve seen in a long time.
Every Hitchin player played their heart out.

A point that felt like a win.
It was great to see us attacking and actually looking as if we might score unlike some matches earlier in the season when there seemed little or no creativity on show.
Whilst it is called game management when it's your own team holding the lead and trying to wind the clock down, but obviously it's time wasting when the opposition do it, so how wonderful to see Mr Breedon and his chums failing to hold on thanks to Leon's wonderful cross and Dan being in the perfect position to score the equaliser. Just think, those wasted minutes could have been used by Bromsgrove to go for a game-killing 3rd goal - bad luck chaps
Well done Yellows, more of the same at Royston please

So did anybody spot the refs mistake this afternoon that should have disallowed Bromsgrove’s second goal?
Free kick was given against Jay for a high boot which is an indirect free kick, so when the kick was taken and went directly into the goal without being touched by another player, a goal kick should have been given, not a goal!
Great strike though.

Pleased to note that Dan's goal was the first header we have scored from open play this season (I think his header from Ben's corner against Stratford was the only other headed goal).

Paddy (12) and I enjoyed the game. The only problem was that Paddy is a goalie, and had us stand behind Charlie Horlock (to pick up tips, perhaps). This meant I did not get a close look at our forwards, but gave us a super view of some amazing defensive blocks by Ben, Josh and Webbie. Promising display.

Opposition seemed to like falling over in the box.

Well done to the ref for not falling for it.

Looking at the video I still believe it was an indirect free kick that they scored directly from.
Anyone seen their managers post match interview, he claims they controlled the game all afternoon and they dropped 2 points, seemed a miserable guy.

Best game of the season so far, but we still need to be more clinical in front of goal. If a reliable goal scorer can't be found giving Webby a run up front could be worth a try. He's probably the second highest scorer all ready and we have defenders like Lewis Ferrell and Joe Gauge who are currently unlucky in not getting the appearances they deserve.

As for penalties it really is time to practice them properly. I remember being taught to know what you are going to do before hand. Not to faff around with side foot shots but to keep your head over the ball, your toes own and hit it hard. Practice involved blocking up a goal so that only about two balls width was open inside each post and then see who was the most succesful in hitting those spaces inside the posts. The most succesful over a dozen or so attempts got to be the match time penalty takers.

Still no guarantees but it helps.
