Keep posting your pieces Anthony - great stuff.

Many clubs would give their eye teeth to have a footballing history as long as that enjoyed by our town.

Let's continue to share these fascinating facts - be they courtesy of the research of Anthony, Neil or anyone else prepared to put in that time and effort.

Thank you, Mr Docking. I hope you don't mind that I have amended an earlier posting of mine in this thread. Having recovered my equilibrium, my posting looked embarrassing!
There was obviously a lot going on behind the scenes before that first fateful meeting of Hitchin F. C. on 24th November 1865. One can imagine Hitchin's young footballers being quite pleased when famous Wanderer Rev John Pardoe came to town, and he with the Radcliffes of the Priory and Francis Shillitoe and friends got things going..
