Manager’s Notes
3-1 Win over Hadley Last Saturday
Saturday we hosted Hadley FC and this would be our final league game against them this season having beat them on the opening day of the season 2-0. Hadley had only lost two other league games since this defeat and had picked up some impressive results so far.
Hadley started the game on the front foot and it wasn’t long before they had a few efforts and a couple of in the box scrambles where we had to defend for our lives. This was followed by a very good save from Tyler McGregor when the Hadley player went 1-1 in the box. The game was being played largely in our half and Tyler was forced into another save from a long range effort. We were struggling to create anything meaningful to worry Hadley.
We then took the lead against the run of play via a Ciaren Jones finish from a corner. We then started to grow into the game and our next big chance came when Liam Brooks was clean through on goal but was bundled over for what everyone in the ground thought was an obvious penalty. Kye Tearle then extended our lead after a shot from 25 yards out flew past the keeper into the roof of the net. Hadley continued the battle and we had to make sure as a collective we were very resilient with our defending. The referee then indicated a minimum of three minutes of added time to finish the half. In this period not much happened but the half seemed to go on and on and on and then into the 6th minute of the three added Hadley scored. This was what Hadley deserved on the balance of play but the game should not have got to this stage.
Second half Hadley started off on the front foot again with a lot of play in our half without really causing Tyler any problems in goal. Their main threat this half was from set plays and these had to be defended extremely well to keep the lead. Our best chances came from a Toby Syme header in which the keeper made an excellent save onto the post and a Josh Jackman header that went over the bar.
We then extended our lead after some good play from Kye Tearle out wide and some good hold up play by Ade in the box, Diogo was able to find the back of the net. This allowed us some breathing space and deflated the hard working Hadley. We then started to create some chances and we probably should have extended the lead even further but were unable to find the back of the net, with the best chance coming from Cole Butler which hit the post.
A very good result against a very difficult team. I think we showed some excellent resilience with our defending to keep Hadley out and we showed the character we have within the group that even though we were not at our best we were still able to impose ourselves in the game in key moments.
Thank you again for your support on a freezing day at Top Field.
Weekend’s Game Against Aylesbury
Saturday we travel to Chesham to play Aylesbury United. Aylesbury have had a difficult start to the season which has found them near the relegation zone. They have had a change of manager and this has had a positive impact and they have drawn their last three games against Welwyn Garden City, Leverstock Green and Hadley scoring 3 very late goals across these games. This shows they have great character and new belief that they can get something out of each game and they keep fighting until the end.
We know that we are in a good place at the moment but we need to make sure we are at our best each game. We need to make sure we have the resilience in our defending from Saturday so we do not give Aylesbury any more confidence while giving ourselves a more difficult task and as always we need to make sure we are clinical in front of goal.
I hope to see as many of you canaries as possible on Saturday.
Next Tuesday’s Trip to Biggleswade Town
We will travel to Biggleswade Town on Tuesday. Biggleswade are one of two teams to beat us in the league this season after they beat us 1-0 in the reverse fixture earlier on in the season.
Biggleswade have added some very good players since we last played them in the FA Trophy. Biggleswade score a lot of goals which always makes them dangerous and gives them every chance of winning games. They have plenty of height within their team, physicality and experience. They are very dangerous from set plays which always give them a chance to add more goals.
We know the difficult task that faces us on Tuesday and we will have to make sure we stand up to all their strengths and make sure we can impose ourselves on the game.
Please continue to get behind this group and provide as much positive support as possible.

Ticketing Update
Half-Season Tickets
In our quest to continue to recognise the loyalty of our own marvellous fans, we are again introducing Half Season tickets again this season.
Half Season tickets are now on sale online, and will give entry to our last nine League games of the season, starting with the game against Stotfold on Saturday 3rd January 2026. They give a massive discount off of normal online and match day admission prices – in fact, buying one of these then matches the cheapest entry prices of any team of the division we are currently in!

* Child Under-13 Season Tickets can only be bought in conjunction with an Adult or Concession Season Ticket. They cannot be bought in isolation. If you are a current Adult or Concession Season Ticket Holder and wish to buy a Half Season Ticket for an accompanying Child, please email tickets@hitchintownfc.club for assistance.
These will make a great Christmas present. They can be ordered either as a Plastic Card (allow 7-14 days for delivery), or as an Apple Pass Book or Google Wallet (for Android phones) – delivery of this is instant to a phone and then can be forwarded on.
PLEASE REMEMBER (ESSENTIAL): If you are buying the ticket for someone else,
You MUST use the “Edit Details” box to enter the name, date of birth and phone number (if different) of the person who will be the Cardholder (attendee). This ensures that the correct name will be on the season ticket before production. Season tickets not in the name of the attendee will not be valid.
Flexi Tickets
Also remember that if you cannot attend games on a regular basis but will attend a few games, or if you have friends wanting to accompany you to a game, the Flexi Ticket also gives a significant reduction off normal entry prices.
Available for Adults (£58), or Concessions (£40) – these give a five-ticket package for entry to League games this season. You can either use them all yourself or bring four friends to a game – the choice is yours. Please be aware though, there are no refunds on unused portions of the package at the end of the season, nor will they be transferable over to next season.
Leighton Town Tickets – Saturday 29 November
Saturday week we host the current runaway and undefeated League leaders Leighton Town. We are expecting a larger than usual crowd on this day, and so we would ask all attending to do their very best to buy their entry tickets in advance, to ensure a quick and smooth entry into the ground. This will be much appreciated.
Merchandise Update
We are very pleased to have now restocked the Visit Hitchin shop with several of our merchandise lines in the run up to Christmas. This includes hats, scarves, bottles, balls and books. They are all sold at the same price as our Top Field Club Shop or our Online store. So pop in there in between matches at Top Field or if you want to avoid the online postage fees.
You can find the shop at 1A Churchyard, Hitchin. As well as our merchandise they have a great range of local products that are great for Christmas gifts.
Hitchin Town vs The Crows!
You may well have seen the news item earlier in the week explaining how the Top Feld playing surface has been suffering damage from crows. This was how it was explained–
Given how the pitch looked on Saturday many of you will not have realised the battle the ground staff team have been having over the last couple of weeks. We have been suffering from significant damage as a result of crows looking to dig down below the turf looking for food. This has been resulting in daily damage similar to that shown below.

Ahead of Saturday’s match Steve and the team spent several hours having to make repairs to ensure the pitch was in a suitable condition for the match against Hadley. Within hours however, the damage had returned on Sunday morning. All attempts so far have failed to deter the Crows. So today we welcomed a special visitor in the form of Zeus the Harris Hawk. The aim is that by flying the Harris Hawk in the area this should provide an effective non-lethal method of scaring the crows away from the site so that they find roosting or feeding sites elsewhere. The crows will hopefully then avoid the area as they believe that there is a predator there. Fingers crossed this will ensure the grounds staff can now focus on just there normal duties to keep the Top Field pitch looking as perfect as always.

I spoke to Steve this morning and he said that since Zeus the hawk made his appearance there has been no further crow damage. Zeus has actually had a high profile admirer. Recently at Caddington Zeus was employed to do bird scaring like at Top Field. Tom Hanks was filming there and was introduced to Zeus. So we now have a connection between Hitchin Town and Tom Hanks!
