MANAGER’S NOTES WITH MARK BURKE
MICKLEOVER
The result was a fair one although on the day I was disappointed with our performance. But looking back if at the beginning of the season you had told me we would draw with the team second in the table and remain in a play-off place I would have been extremely happy. But we have set such high standards that expectations are now so much higher.
We started the game really well and probably should have taken the lead in the first minute but indecision cost us this chance. Then almost straight away Mickleover took the lead. We got back in the game with a well worked goal only to fall behind again early in the second half. We showed resilience and character to again equalise with another well worked goal.
Both teams had chances to win the game but a draw was a fair result.
ROYSTON
I decided to freshen the team up and made a number of changes. This was based on needing to rest some players and the condition of the pitch. It was difficult to play our normal game on such a difficult surface and this led to a dour game which was not helped by some of the officials’ decisions.
The game will certainly not live long in the memory and we move on to Saturday and aim to get the three points.
BERKHAMSTED
I was sorry to see manager Steve Heath leave Berkhamsted during the week. It is amazing to see what some people will do to get out of buying me a beer!! Heathy works extremely hard and I am sure he will not be out of football for long. Trishan Patel and Aaron Morgan have been put in temporary charge and both have a history with Hitchin. Trishan was on our college programme many years ago and has progressed through the coaching ranks and is highly thought of at the FA while Aaron played 9 games for us in 2012.
It is always dangerous to play a team that has just lost a manager and we will be wary of this. Having stopped the home form rot against Mickleover it will be a big boost if we can secure three points tomorrow. Your support has been fantastic this year and the players and management are really grateful. Hopefully you will turn out in big numbers tomorrow and we can reward you.
