MANAGER’S NOTES WITH MARK BURKE
LOWESTOFT
I was delighted after Saturday’s game with Lowestoft having secured three points in a vital win. I did not think we played particularly well in the first half and Lowestoft probably deserved to take the lead. However I believe the timing of our equalizer just before half time to have been the turning point of the game. It was an excellent finish by Steve Cawley and was just what the doctor ordered as it was a psychological blow to Lowestoft but a real boost for us.
We were far more positive in the second half and took the lead with a well executed penalty. I was very pleased for Alex Brown as it enabled him to lay the ghost of his penalty miss at Lowestoft earlier in the season. Overall the second half was not a pretty spectacle but we eased our anxiety with a well taken third goal from Rio Desilva. There was still a nervous ending as Lowestoft scored a second goal but we managed the end of the game well enough to hold on to the victory.
I had said for a long time this would be a critical fixture and there is now a nice ten point cushion between us and Lowestoft.
NUNEATON
We face a second successive battle against a team in and around us as we travel to Nuneaton on Saturday. We will be looking to come away with at least a point but it will be a difficult game as Nuneaton are fighting for their lives. However we must use the confidence that has built up after recent performances when we have only lost one of our last eight league games and lie fourth in the last six games league table.
PLAYER NEWS
- James Peters serves the second of his two game suspension so misses the Nuneaton game.
- Dan Webb, Lewis Barker and Steve Cawley all face late fitness tests before the Nuneaton game.
PETER GOOCH
I received a phone call from Darren Gooch today thanking the club for the various tributes Hitchin Town Football Club paid to his father Peter following his passing last week. The family were very grateful that Peter was remembered for being such a great supporter of the club.
NUNEATON
Saturday sees us make our first ever visit to Nuneaton. It is quite rare to visit a completely new opponent with our long history.
PAUL GIGGLE
Hitchin legend Paul Giggle came to the Lowestoft game last Saturday. It is always good to see Paul at Top Field.
