HERTS SENIOR CUP
We have been drawn at home to Welwyn Garden City in the first round – date TBC. The winner will travel to Leverstock Green or Harpenden Town in the second round.

PLAYERS OUT ON LOAN WITH MARK BURKE

“I have sent Kieran Barnes and Lukas Didik to Biggleswade and Barton Rovers respectively, to gain more experience. Both Kieran and Lukas are players we are looking to develop for the future having played in the Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division last season for Baldock and Stotfold. It is part of the programme pathway to our first team that has served me well in the past with the likes of Will Wright, Lucas Kirkpatrick and Liam Brooks.

“Jack Thomas will start in the Spartan South Midlands Premier Division with Biggleswade United this season and I am hopeful he will follow the pathway of Kieran and Lukas.”

MANAGER’S NOTES WITH ADAM PARKER AND MARK BURKE

ADAM ON BEDFORD TOWN

We started well in the first 10 minutes but then conceded a really poor goal. This seemed to affect us and we failed to close down in the lead up to the second goal. We failed to create a great deal and I was disappointed with our first half performance.

At half time I still felt we could get back in the game and I told the players to forget the first 45 minutes. But after conceding another poor goal we just never improved and at times it was men against boys. We lacked creativity and were poor in defence.

The positive is that the only way is up and this was a good wake up call before the league season starts.

MARK ON BIGGLESWADE

Our preparations were somewhat hindered by the loss of Charlie Horlock and Jack Green in the warm up. In addition Dan Webb was not available and a good Biggleswade team took the game to us in the early stages. You could tell they had brought the successful momentum from last season with them and they were full of confidence.

They took a deserved lead with a well worked goal and we struggled to get in to a rhythm. In the final 20 minutes of the first half we started to play much better and got the equaliser. However we started the second half slowly and Biggleswade regained the initiative scoring another well worked goal to take the lead.

I made a number of substitutions which gave us some impetus and we battled to the end but could not find the equaliser.

MARK ON STOURBRIDGE

We face Stourbridge on Saturday and face the team who finished third last season. They have always been a difficult side to play against and this season have a new manager in Ian Long who has enjoyed a lot of recent success at Alvechurch. Last season when we played Alvechurch they were two entertaining fixtures and I know Ian likes to play a passing game.

Therefore this should be an attractive game for the supporters to watch and I hope to see a big crowd at Top Field with Stourbridge certain to have a good following.

MARK ON NEEDHAM MARKET

On Tuesday we travel to Needham Market and this date corresponds with last year’s fixture. I am eager to lay the ghost of both the performance and result from last season. As with all fixtures this season it will be a difficult match but we will be looking to come back with some reward.
