Weekly Bulletin from Roy

HITCHIN TOWN LADIES FC

There follows a report from Callum Ellis on the Ladies game with Garston last Sunday.

“Sunday 29th April 2018 saw us take on Garston 2nd XI in our final game in Division Two. Garston needed two points from today’s fixture to be crowned champions and they surely wanted to turn the tables from when they lost 3-1 away to us two weekends ago.

The game got underway and within the first minute Garston won a corner but it was headed over the bar. This was a wake up call that Hitchin needed. The game started to heat up with some strong tackles being won in the Hitchin half to stop any Garston attack. Garston kept pushing for the opener but were unable to beat Thompson in goal.

A quick Hitchin counter saw Hitchin win a corner. Chaffey delivered the cross to find the free head of Cain-Murnane who just headed over the bar. Garston reacted quickly and attacked Hitchin’s left side and a square ball was calmly converted to make it 1-0 to Garston. The support for Hitchin doubled if not tripled throughout the game.

The half time whistle was blown and it was time to reflect.

The second half got underway and it was Hitchin that started the strongest. Despite many darting runs by McNarama & Watson and some balls being played from Day, Hitchin were unable to convert the chances. The final nail in the coffin was from a Garston corner when a scrappy clearance from the Hitchin defence fell to a Garston player, who made it 2-0.

The final whistle was blown and Garston were crowned champions of Division Two and congratulations to them on their successful season.”

Callum will be reviewing the whole season in a feature tomorrow.
