The Puritans return to the Premier Division almost saw them reach the play-off zone at the first attempt. Only once the season was deep into April did Banbury run out of fixtures to close the gap on the teams ahead of them. Hitchin’s 1-1 draw at Banbury on 15 April helped to maintain the gap between the two sides with Matt Lench equalising after Zac McEachran had opened for the hosts.

It was easier for the Canaries at Top Field at the start of the season – Brett Donnelly, Lench and Burns scoring in a 3-1 win.

Banbury had bounced back after one season in the South & West Division, when they finished second under new boss Mike Ford and subsequently won the play-offs after wins against Winchester and – in front of 1200 fans in the final – Taunton. Banbury have added to their squad over the summer, recruiting former player Darren Pond in midfield, as well as strikers Leam Howards and the well travelled Jefferson Louis.
